NANA – Episode Twenty-Three

Artsy~

Starting this episode, Mayuyu is muxing, CRCing, and uploading to the bot in my stead. Hopefully, this eliminates all of the bad episodes and wrong CRCs. And with that in mind…

Half-batch release tomorrow! The episodes are being double-checked. If there are any issues with anything that you’ve noticed, let us know!

NANA – Episode Twenty-Two

This is how I always view Reira.

I’m SO extremely excited to present to you guys this episode. “Why?” you may ask. “Calyrica, didn’t you say that episode 17 was your favourite episode?”

While that is true, this episode also features another huge milestone: the second OP, finally! This is truly a Trapnest-ic episode, with “Wish” being the new OP, “Starless Night” continuing as the ED (and also featured as an insert), and “Recorded Butterflies” being an insert once again.

No Ep Today, so Have Some Trapnest!

Mayuyu’s out getting drunk and I have to go to my nephew’s 9th birthday party. Episode 22 is pretty much ready, though, so expect a release early tomorrow.

In the meantime, enjoy the official PV of Trapnest’s “A Little Pain”! And by Trapnest, I mean Olivia Lufkin, Reira’s singer. She’s half-Japanese and half-Norweigan, I believe.

NANA – Episode Twenty-One Point Five

So this is a recap episode. As such, there’s not much to say about it.

IN OTHER NEWS, however… Did you know that the bar, ‘Jackson Hole’, that the characters like to frequent was based on an actual bar in Tokyo, located at the southern entrance of the Chofu Station by Keio Line? Sato Koichi (who features in this ep) was actually the owner of the real life bar and the character is based on him. There were even Jackson Burgers on the menu. The bar moved to the northern entrance of the station in 2008, and is a hot destination for die-hard Nana fans.

I was going to use this post to let you guys in on some script comments made by the Ureshii editor regarding Hachi. I’ve changed my mind about posting any of the actual comments, but let’s just say he’s not a Hachi fan at all, and takes every opportunity to (quite explicitly) tell her just what he thinks of her on the scripts. Now, I’m all about the Hachi so this guy is like, my arch nemesis or something. I think everyone’s got their own take on all the crap that happens to the poor girl, and I’m of the opinion it’s not entirely her fault. She’s naive to the ways of the world, right? She has a very idealised view of romance (*coff* CALY *coff*) and she struggles to deal with the ups and downs because she’s had a sheltered upbringing.

Episode 22 pushes things along nicely, so stay tuned for that. We’re also saying goodbye to BitShare for DDLs, I wouldn’t really recommend them. I will be trialling Toucan Sharing next after a recommendation from another fansubber whose group have been using them for a while. As ever, feedback is not only welcome, it’s encouraged. A big thanks to Alev and mr meowski for helping us test a mux, and for rating DDLs.

Caly edit: So what if I have an idealised view of romance? You act like that’s a bad thing…

NANA – Episode Twenty-One

Nana wa kakkoi desu!

Today marks my last day as a student this semester! I’m teaching a class tomorrow and proctoring some exams next week, but summer has pretty much begun for me. Which… doesn’t a damned thing in terms of Jinsei, since we do daily releases as it is.

The next episode is the recap episode, 21.5, and we’re working to put together a half-batch after episode 23. For the half-batch, we’ll remux episode 6, and put the correct CRCs in for episodes 3 and 4. So while only the filename is changing for episodes 3 and 4, episode 6 will be a completely different file entirely.

NANA – Episode Twenty

She’s drinking coffee, which makes this picture speak to my heart!~

A bit late tonight, sorry. I was suffering from some health issues that aren’t quite appropriate to talk about here, so I wasn’t feeling up to working on the ep until late in the afternoon.

Oh, and I’ve been playing an MMO recently. Sorry.

NANA – Episode Eighteen

BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

This is the episode of the karaoke! There’s an insert song, and the ending is lengthened, so there’s an extra 2 minutes or so of amazing music than in a normal episode. I hope you enjoy all of it!

A bit about the insert song this week; it’s called “Recorded Butterflies”, and it’s by Trapnest, featured on the OLIVIA inpi’ Reira album. It’s definitely one of my favourite songs Trapnest has done, which is why I’m so disappointed that there’s not “real” version of it. “But wait, Calyrica!” you might say. “Didn’t you just say it was featured on the Trapnest album?” Yes, yes I did. However, it was featured as a “studio live” version. Hence, no real version exists.

NANA – Episode Seventeen

Finally, we get to see my beloved Reira!

This is my all-time favourite episode of NANA, so I’m super excited we finally got to it! It features more emotion than the show has ever showed us.

Because of this, we have a special third track on the subtitles: the “no karaoke” track. Why have we included this “no karaoke” track? Well, the most emotional scene in the episode has an insert song playing over it, and some of you may want to simply drown in the beauty of it without pesky subtitles getting in the way. There’s very little dialogue, so the insert song karaoke is kind of distracting, even with the line karaoke track. Of course, the lyrics to the song are extremely fitting to the emotions expressed in the scene, so I’d definitely recommend going back and rewatching it with one of the karaoke tracks on.
